LCD PROGRAMMING INTRODUCTION

System 2 Installation / Programming Manual
Accessing the System
Most users will never program the System, but all users will use the System to enter the
protected area. In general, the user will be identified by either a Reader a Keypad or both. In
the case of a reader, the user simply presents the card by, depending on the type of reader,
swiping, inserting, touching or simply holding it near the reader.
In the case of a Keypad, the user enters a code followed the # key. This means that users may
have codes of varying length. Remember when assigning codes to users, 6 is the same as 06
or 000006. The maximum number of digits allowed is nine, and the minimum is one. It is
important to bear in mind that shorter codes diminish System security, as it is easier to guess a
shorter code than it is to guess a longer one.
The x key on the Keypad will clear any previous digits entered on the Keypad. So, if you make
a mistake while entering your code touch x, and re-enter your code followed by #. It is a good
habit to get into to always precede your code with a x, just in case someone has “brushed-up”
against the Keypad and accidentally place digits on the buffer.
Example: If your code is 12345, when you enter your code, do so in the following manner:
x12345#. x clears the buffer, 12345 is your code, and # enters the information into the System
for access.
Pass this information along to all users on the System, it will probably save you a service
call.
